Tempo di Vacanza…Verbania-Intra

Lago Maggiore, Italy: Part I

This was an incredible week! We just came back from the Northern region of Italy, Lago Maggiore to be precise. We took the winding roads curving the long coast of Lago Maggiore and visited some of the many cities around the region. There are plenty of hotels, villas, apartments and resorts around the region. Selecting one can be tricky, so stick to your needs to help you decide which one would be best for you. Since we were traveling with Heidi, our Labrador, we had to choose a hotel that allowed pets. We also wanted to stay right along the shore of Lago Maggiore. Because of these 2 determining factors, we chose the Hotel Ghiffa, in Ghiffa, Italy. Located right on the shore of Lago Maggiore, is rated as a 4 star hotel. If you asked me, I would rate it a 3 star hotel. Regardless of our little inconveniences, their service was impeccable, not to mention its location.

Here you can see why…

Because the weather turned gloomy and colder than expected, we decided to visit the city of Verbania-Intra, Italy. Located right on the shore of Lago Maggiore, this city is full of boutiques, restaurants, leather goods, locally made products, and of course, Italian Gelatos! After walking around the old town, I visited the Basilica di Vittore, and to my surprise, I entered it during Good Friday Mass! It was truly a religiously refreshing experience. Some parts of the sermon where in Latin. Yep, they still do it! Absolutely worth the visit.

Here are pictures of the Basilica…

As the evening came upon us, we headed back to our hotel to charge up our batteries for dinner and prepare for our next day trip to another charming little town along the lake shores of Lago Maggiore, which I will talk about in my next couple of posts coming up this week, so stay tune…

In the meantime, here are more pics of our visit to Verbania-Intra, Italy
