Remembering Othmarsingen…

I hope to come back…someday.

You could hear the bells ring at 6:00 in the morning, at 11:00 before noon, at 18:00 in the evening and every 15 minutes of the hour, on the hour. I miss this!

The yellow big house atop the hill is the town’s school.

We moved from a “Howdy y’all” Texas to a “Grüezi Mittenand” Switzerland! I assimilated a culture of Brötli and Schnitzels, full of never-ending “viele schön” places accompanied by many many “mercy vielmals”. O T H M A R S I N G E N !

I loved living in Othmarsingen! For the next 4 years I felt like I was living inside the set of The Little House on the Prairie.  The town is literally that small. That didn’t matter because its people made it feel like a great big town. Plus, everything, and I mean, everything was within walking distance: Die Post, die Coop, die Völg, die Gemeinde, the florist, the baker, the whore house (yep, totally legal!), the farmer, the butcher’s house, the kindergarten, the school, local grower, and the Bahnhof. The railway station had direct connection to Zürich, and from there, you could go straight to the airport. It would also take you straight to other destinations. It had the best SBB routes!!! To me this was very important because we only had a car (I miss you, JEEP!) that my husband and I shared, so if one of us needed it, the other one could use the SBB.

It’s not like I’m trying to sell you Othmarsingen as a perfect little town to live in…

Not at all…!

Othmarsingen according to moi…

Flowers decorating window sills were and they still are popularly charming in Othmarsingen.

From a distance…you can see Othmarsingen from Lenzburg Castle.

And…you can have a glance at Lenzburg Castle from Othmarsingen.

Even my dog made friends with the locals in Othmarsingen! Mind you! That fence between them was a shocker!

My dog loved it! The creek was her playground. Everyday, we would walk up to here so that she could dive into it and fetch “the stick”.

On a clear day, you would be able to zoom in with your camera and see Die Alpen.

Der grosse Schule…is a beautiful building.

This is my daughter. Here she is jumping off from the swing at der Schule.

It would look like a winter wonderland during the Christmas holidays.

This is a view atop the “sleigh hill” of Othmarsingen…great memories! This was a blast! We didn’t have to go far to have fun in the snow!

Look! It’s a field of red/green salads! Makes me want to snatch one and eat it!

I have 4 years of photographs from this tiny and lovable village, but these are some of my favorite pictures. If pictures could tell you all the details, then this short post would turn into a never ending story. It was hard to live this place behind, at least for me. I will cherish these memories for as long as my mind will let me.
