Never heard of Tübingen? Well, guess what? Me either…until now.
Tübingen, Germany is about 2 1/2 hours from Othmarsingen, Switzerland, southwesterly located in the region of Baden, Germany, or 1/2 hour from Stuttgart. It’s a beautiful old university town with lots of half-timbered houses to just stare at and take pictures of. All the crooked little cobblestone, narrowed streets are full of nothing but boutiques, shops, cafés, and ice cream parlors…Italian Ice Cream parlors! Everyday we had 2 ice cream cones. NO JOKE! Especially on a hot summer day. It totally called for that!
The atmosphere is friendly. You have people from all corners of the World that come to visit or study at the University of Tübingen.
Things to do:
Go canoeing on the Neckar River
St. George’s Collegiate Church
SCHLOSS HOHENTÜBINGEN
The castle, Schloss Hohentübingen, is part of the university system where it caters to the Museum of the University of Tübingen related to Classical Archaeology, Numismatics (coin history, etc.,) among other pre-historical displays. It’s a nice trek-y walk up hill for the nice views of Tübingen.
Hit the markets. There are tons!!!
Traveling with children? No problem!
Shops
After all, my experience here was amazing. Oh, and I had no problem speaking, English or Italian with the waiter at the restaurant and Spanish with a Peruvian gentleman that lived in the nearby town of Reutlingen visiting Tübingen for the day.
What else can you expect from a town with a population of approximately 85,000 of which around 25,000 are students. This German gem is an “off the beaten path”, must-see, old, well preserved, historical city! For more information about Tübingen, Germany visit their official website, www.tuebingen.de/en
